Department of Art, Art History and Design

Students majoring in art or wishing to broaden their understanding of the creative process, aesthetics and history of art, are provided with an environment for the best possible education in the visual arts within the context of a liberal arts education. Our facilities include recently renovated digital photo labs and traditional darkrooms, spacious painting and drawing studios, a well-equipped graphic design studio with large-screen iMacs and a tabloid color laser printer, a recently built woodshop for sculpture and ceramics and printmaking studios filled with natural light.

Monthly exhibits in the O’Connor Gallery, lectures by visiting artists, field trips to Chicago galleries and museums and ongoing critiques promote critical thinking and creative development. Teaching certification is available through the School of Education.

Above all, students will be taught by our faculty who are passionate about art.
